Liberia will be celebrating its 175th birthday on July 26. This special day marks the formal recognition of Liberia as a nation in 1847, although it existed for many years prior to this.
In 1822, a group of immigrants from the United States arrived in Liberia in search of a place where freed slaves could call home. This led to the establishment of Liberia, which will celebrate its 200th year of existence in 2022.
Despite its turbulent history of civil instability, Liberia’s citizens take great pride in their nation. On National Ensign Day, July 26, Liberians parade with their national flag of red, white, and blue.
This year’s celebration is extra special because Liberia will be celebrating its bicentennial, marking 200 years of existence as a country and 175 years as an independent nation.
President Weah will host the National Flag and conduct a review of the armed forces. The formal program for marking Liberia’s 175th anniversary will follow, along with the recognition of the national colors.
President Weah acknowledged and commended the forefathers, both the settlers and the indigenous residents, for adopting the ideas of peaceful coexistence over the course of many years.
Despite some dissatisfied citizens expressing their opinions that there are no tangible benefits to celebrating, others believe it is important to show gratitude to God and celebrate their nation’s existence.
