On the same day that West African envoys arrived in Burkina Faso’s capital on a fact-finding trip in the wake of the country’s most recent coup, several dozen demonstrators held a rally in the city.

The Guinean-Bissau Foreign Minister served as the mission’s leader, and the West African mediator for Burkina Faso was also a team member. Although some of the demonstrators were antagonistic, the envoys were welcomed by the country’s new strong man and met with religious and customary officials.

Protesters gathered in Ouagadougou to demonstrate their opposition to ECOWAS.

“ECOWAS is a shame,” Amadou Sagada shouted.

“We want them to know that the people of Burkina Faso are rising to their feet and will not allow themselves to be taken away. “The captain’s actions reflect the people’s desire, and we support them in their endeavor,” continued the educator at the secondary school.

Within a little more than two years, the regional bloc has been rocked by five military takeovers in three of its members.

ECOWAS established a contentious technique that included fines to pressure member states ruled by juntas to return to constitutional governance.

“Bado Nebon, a participant in the demonstration, stated that the protesters do not oppose the ECOWAS envoys’ visit to Burkina Faso.

“We take a stand against them because we know their ultimate goal: to bring the nation to its knees. That is not acceptable to us, and we have made it clear that we do not accept it.”

The demonstrators shouted pro-Russian chants, and they demanded that France leave the nation. Even though the coup’s leader called for calm and discipline, protesters gathered in an area of the airport where the West African delegation had arrived.

Demonstrators were kept away from the main entrance of the airport, where they had gathered to make ECOWAS envoys feel unwelcome, even if the leader of the coup had urged restraint for a smooth course of the ECOWAS mission to ensure a peaceful period of events.
